Fixed Fee Undefended Divorce
We can deal with your divorce on the basis that it is undefended for a fixed fee of £985 inclusive of VAT and court fees. What does 'undefended' mean? - An undefended divorce is one where the Respondent (other party) does not formally object to the divorce and the court accepts the grounds for the divorce are met. The fixed fee covers one meeting with you to take instruction and preparing and filing all the relevant paperwork at court. We will also keep you updated by telephone/letter/email throughout the proceedings. It also covers the standard court fees payable which at present are £340 to start the divorce and £45 to apply for the Decree Absolute to finalise the divorce. The fixed fee does not cover advice or assistance in relation to financial or children issues nor any work necessary to trace or serve the Respondent with the divorce papers (which can be necessary when their whereabouts are unknown and/or they do not voluntarily sign and return an acknowledgement of the papers). Neither does it cover the cost of obtaining a certified copy of your marriage certificate (should you not be able to provide it). However if any of this additional work appeared necessary we would discuss the cost of it in advance with you. If you decide to pay a fixed fee then we will ask you to pay the total sum in advance of starting work. The benefit to paying the fixed fee is that you then have certainty about the costs involved. The alternative is to pay at hourly rate of £170 plus VAT for the time we spend on your case plus any court fees and additional costs which may arise.
